Just before midnight, the operating room door finally opened.
Su Man and Bai Ye both looked particularly exhausted but managed to keep their spirits up. Cheng Anya watched them anxiously, dreading to hear any bad news from them. Young Master Ye San remained calmest as he asked, "How is Fei Mo"
Bai Ye smiled slightly, saying, "I promised you a healthy son and I'll certainly keep my promise. The surgery went smoother than expected. Tonight is crucial; if he can get through tonight safely, there won't be any major issues."
When Warm heard this, her heart that had been lifted high suddenly dropped but then quickly returned to its place. Soon after, a young nurse wheeled Ye Feimo into the intensive care unit. As long as they made it through tonight, Fei Mo would be fine.
"Thank you," Cheng Anya said with tears in her eyes. Originally, there wasn't much hope that Fei Mo's surgery would succeed; they must have exhausted all efforts to snatch him back from the clutches of death. Cheng Anya was incredibly grateful.
Warm heard Su Man speak for the first time, "Don't be overly optimistic. Even if the surgery is successful, when he wakes up, there will still be several major surgeries ahead as the chance of recurrence would be too high otherwise."
They wanted to thoroughly remove all tumors from his body.
The surgical operation couldn't help Fei Mo, but her medication could.
Everyone was originally in a good mood, but after hearing Su Man's words, they sank back into gloominess. Bai Ye smiled, "If Fei Mo can withstand this surgery, the subsequent surgeries will definitely be successful. You don't need to worry unnecessarily."
Cheng Anya let out another sigh of relief, "Su Man, you're scaring me."
"You’re too easily scared," Su Man jokingly said for once. Young Master Ye had the nurses arrange accommodation for them; after over ten hours of surgery, even an iron man would collapse. They temporarily couldn't leave the hospital as no one knew if anything unexpected could happen to Fei Mo in the middle of the night.
So they decided to stay at the hospital tonight.
Su Man was notoriously fussy about cleanliness, and both Young Master Ye and Cheng Anya were well aware of this. Therefore, the accommodation area had been set up very clean and even smelled of lavender.
They were indeed tired and went to rest without saying much to Ye Sanshao and Cheng Anya.
Wenran found it a bit odd; there was only one bed in the resting room. Would two grown men share the same bed
She felt strange but couldn't pinpoint why exactly.
The surgery had put her through an emotional roller coaster, and she too was exhausted. She didn’t overthink it and went to wait outside the ICU instead of returning home. Cheng Anya said, "Wenran, you're tired too. Go back home and rest. I'll let you know if anything happens."
Wenran shook her head; she wasn't willing to leave.
"I’ll wait until morning before leaving. There’s nothing for me to do at home anyway." She would rather stay here by Fei Mo's side and fight the Grim Reaper together with him, than go home and be unsure of his condition.
Once Wenran made up her mind, no one could change it. Cheng Anya didn’t press further; Tang Shuwen and Chen Xueru had already gone back home. Ye Sanshao and Cheng Anya stayed at the hospital. There were spare rooms in this floor, but since Wenran insisted on staying outside, they couldn't convince her otherwise and went to rest themselves.
The ICU had nurses looking after it; should anything happen, they would be called immediately.
When Wenran’s parents learned that she was at the hospital very late into the night, they worried a lot. They called Wenran to ask about her well-being. She said, "Fei Mo's surgery went smoothly. I’m tired and want to take a walk before heading back home. Mom and Dad should go to bed early."
She sat alone on a cold bench, waiting all night long.
The next morning when Cheng Anya woke up, Wenran was no longer in the corridor. She learned from the nurse that Wenran had left at around 6:30 AM and also knew that Fei Mo had been out of danger.
Wenran left after she found out he was out of immediate danger without lingering any further.
Despite being in the clear, Ye Feimo didn’t regain consciousness. He was transferred to a regular ward. Baiye checked that his body’s various indicators had returned to normal. Apart from having low blood pressure, there were no other major issues.
Su Man and Baiye would stay in city A for some time as they needed to perform follow-up surgeries on Fei Mo. It was too tiring to keep traveling back and forth, so they decided to settle here with time to spare to explore the vicinity.
Su Man didn't like coming to city A, much less going places where there were crowds of people.
His appearance would draw attention wherever he went, and with his waist-length hair, conservative domestic folks found his look and attire quite odd. Hence, Su Man rarely moved around in China.
Bai Ye visited often; for things that Su Man disliked, he wouldn’t force her, but he also wouldn’t give up the pleasure of traveling alone just to accommodate her, although he would return after a few days each time.
When Nuwan returned home, she shut down and went straight to bed.
Nuwan’s mother asked about Ye Feimo’s situation. She replied with one word: "safe," then fell silent.
The worry in her heart had been alleviated, and everything felt lighter. Nuwan slept until nightfall before receiving a call from the visa office saying that her paperwork was almost complete, and there were no issues on the university end either.
Nuwan thought about it and booked a flight online for ten days later to fly to America.
After booking the ticket, Du Di called and laughed as he asked, "Do you want me to find an apartment near your university in the US It would be very convenient."
Nuwan smiled but shook her head. “No need, my teacher will help with that.”
Initially, she had planned to leave with Du Di if Ye Feimo was insistent on not letting go and refused to divorce her as a way of forcing him into a divorce. Now that Ye Feimo agreed to the divorce, there was no need for her to leave with Du Di; if possible, she wanted to maintain some distance from him.
The incident with Du Yueying was a lesson: Nuwan vaguely understood that Yueying’s attempts to harm her were not just about the cheongsam, but also out of concern for Du Di. She didn’t want to provoke Yueying if they got too close, since Yueying might take offense.
Since she couldn’t confront Yueying, avoiding her was better.
Du Di would handle his sister himself; Nuwan had seen through Yueying’s efforts to lure her back to A City and hadn't fallen into the trap. This woman had a strong resolve and was also quite clever—Nuwan usually knew when it was best to stay out of things, so there was no need to provoke her.
"Really, you don’t need my help"
“No, really,” Nuwan said diplomatically. She changed the subject and asked, “By the way, have you found your sister”
There was a pause on the other end before Du Di replied, "She’s in Europe, hiding thoroughly. I haven’t received any news from her yet, but don’t worry; she won’t hurt you again."
A warm smile turned into a cold laugh inside her heart. How could she possibly be at ease
Du Yueying had said that if she divorced Fei Mo, and lost the Ye family’s protection, Du would kill herself.
Now that it has come to pass as Du Yueying predicted – she and Ye Feimo are indeed divorced. Du probably won’t let her off easily. She hopes that Du Di can restrain his sister a little so that she doesn’t cause more trouble for her.
"Okay, I understand," Warm said, "It’s very late, I’m going down to eat something, goodbye."
"Alright, call me when you get there," Du Di said gently. Warm nodded and hung up the phone.
Du Di sat alone in his study, squinting slightly as he called Jing Nan into the room, "Any news on Miss"
Jing Nan replied, "She’s on a small island in Europe."
Du Di snorted coldly, “Find her and bring her back.”
"Master, I’m afraid Miss will be unwilling," Jing Nan said. Du Yueying had hidden thoroughly, choosing places that others wouldn’t dare to go to, believing that no one would dare provoke her there.
Du Di’s gaze turned stern. He could not afford to let Du Yueying run wild any longer. If she learned about Warm studying in America, she would definitely return and who knew what kind of trouble she’d cause then. He had to stop her.
"Release news saying I’m critically ill," said Du Di coldly as he looked down at the documents before him.
Jing Nan stared at Du Di in surprise, unsure if he heard right and called out hesitantly, “Master”
Du Di repeated himself once again. Jing Nan completely understood his intentions. He nodded and left, saying, "Yes, I understand."
The news that Master Du was critically ill was no small matter. The Du family was a very old arms dealer in America and had many operations in the underworld. Moreover, with terrorist organizations pressuring them lately, the Du family’s reputation as this powerful arms dealer was now precarious. Releasing such news at this moment would be disastrous for the Du family. Was it worth doing all of this just to secure one woman
Jing Nan didn’t know.s amicable and harmonious. In over a decade, apart from one accidental explosion that claimed more than a hundred lives, there had never been such significant casualties. This time, however, the loss...
