to speak clearly, but she coldly yet distinctly whispered, "No... I don't know her."The next thing that happened involved being hoisted up by the chains and having a black cloth covered over her face...The Substitute Ex-Wife of the CEO

Zhao Yuning was chased down by a bodyguard, feeling indignant. She was very worried about Tang Shuwen; she heard that the situation wasn't looking good and feared something might have happened to him. If it weren’t for today's wedding, no one would have had the chance to do anything.

Yesterday when Tang Si and Wen Lan left, she overheard their conversation. It turned out that Tang Shuwen was shot while protecting Xiao Nian. Zhao Yuning bit her lip; was he willing to risk his own life for his son’s sake

Xuwen, who were you protecting, her

Don't you care about hurting her feelings

Aren’t you the one who said that you didn’t love Chen Xueru and never considered Xiao Nian as your son Why then did you risk everything for them without a second thought

The vows you made, the affection you shared, do they mean nothing to you now

Before he got married, he came to her and said that their relationship was over. He admitted his wrongdoing towards her but also stated that if there were any help needed from the Tang family in the future, he wouldn’t refuse. However, he refused to have anything more to do with her.

He said he had given a promise to Chen Xueru.

What about his promises to you Does he even remember them Tang Shuwen, how could you be so cruel to me

She thought that if the child died, Tang Shuwen and Chen Xueru's marriage would end too.

But he risked everything just to protect their child.

Does this mean she no longer has a place in his heart

How can emotions change so abruptly within such a short period of time

Zhao Yuning clung to the wall and wept, feeling intense pain in her chest. She felt warmth between her legs as something flowed out; her face turned pale, and she clutched at her lower abdomen in agony.

A nurse passed by and seeing her state, hurried over to support her, but Zhao Yuning waved her hand to push the nurse away and stumbled into the elevator.

The nurse looked down at a few drops of blood on the floor and let out an alarmed cry.

Tang Shuwen survived those three days and was transferred to a VIP ward.

Everyone in the Tang family heaved a sigh of relief; he had defeated death, and they were glad that he was back. Chen Xuer like thanked heaven and earth with tears streaming down her face, truly grateful for Tang Shuwen this time around.

If it weren't for Tang Shuwen blocking the bullet, Xiao Nian would have been hit by it.

How could Xiao Nian withstand a bullet

If one were to say that Tang Shuwen had grasped the key to unlock her heart on that night, then his efforts and care during their wedding ceremony further solidified her resolve to give him that key. After this incident, he had completely opened her heart.

No matter what his original intention was or how fearful of the future she might be, she was willing to let go of all her reservations and past suffering, resolutely walking with him forward. These thoughts occupied her mind most during those three days.

Being able to risk everything to save a son he once loathed, yet showing such filial piety—no matter how poor his public image was, she knew that she had already been completely captivated by him.

When Tang Shuwen woke up, Chen Xuer was resting on top of his hospital bed. His hand moved and he clasped her warm one; she had held onto him all along, which instantly calmed Tang Shuwen's heart.

The sunlight was bright; the curtains were already drawn open. He found it blinding, opening and closing his eyes before feeling a bit more comfortable after some time. There was another bed beside him—why didn't she go sleep there but instead rest here

"Brother, are you awake" Tang Mandong came in with breakfast and ran over happily. Tang Shuwen shook his head to indicate that she should not disturb Chen Xieru. Tang Mandong was very pleased and went out to call Tang Si and Wen Lan.

Then she returned, her steps lighter this time.

She murmured several times and said how hardworking Chen Xieru had been; for these few days, apart from washing up and eating, she hadn’t left the hospital at all but stayed by his side. Upon hearing this, Tang Shuwen felt warm inside and asked Xiao Nian again.

Tang Mandong was afraid that worrying too much would not be conducive to Tang Shuwen’s recuperation, so she only said that everything was fine with Xiao Nian, which put Tang Shuwen at ease.

When Chen Xieru regained consciousness, Tang Mandong tactfully left the ward.

Their gazes intertwined as if they wanted to see right through each other. Chen Xieru’s heart ached; she pressed her face against his hand, full of nostalgia. There wasn’t another bride in this world who was so worried after just three days of marriage, afraid that her husband would leave her and that her son would never speak again. All the worries and tears were concealed behind forced strength.

Now that he had woken up, she finally could rest a bit, not having to pretend everything was fine, not having to pretend that she was strong.

Tears moistened his hand; Tang Shuwen wanted to comfort her but couldn’t move the other hand. "Idiot, stop crying. I just woke up and saw you crying, which is so unlucky."

Chen Xieru felt even more wronged; Tang Shuwen tried to sit up but a sharp pain shot through his chest. Chen Xieru panicked and hurriedly came over to support him, her voice trembling with tears as she chided him, pressing down on his shoulder so that he wouldn’t move.

Tang Shuwen smiled at her; Chen Xieru noticed that it was intentional and her expression turned serious. Tang Shuwen said apologetically, "Sorry for making you worry."

She shook her head, and Tang Shuwen reached out to wipe away her tears, his gaze locking on hers with infinite tenderness. Chen Xieru held his hand, at a loss as to how to express the gratitude and emotion in her heart.

It seemed he could read her thoughts; he whispered softly, “Do you know what I was thinking when I got shot”

She shook her head. Tang Shuwen held her hand tightly, his gaze gentle and distant, yet sincere as well. He said, “If Xiao Nian is fine, you must be very happy.”

When Chen Xueru's eyes turned hot, tears immediately filled her gaze. She buried her head in his shoulder and sobbed loudly.

If Xiao Nian was fine, then he must also be okay. And thinking of how silent Xiao Nian still remained, Tang Shuwen lying so weakly, her heart ached uncontrollably.

"If I knew you'd cry when I woke up, I wouldn't have bothered to wake up at all. I could've just stayed unconscious; don't worry about me," Tang Shuwen said rather unreasonably as he closed his eyes, looking like he was really going to fall back into a coma.

Chen Xueru hurriedly got up and wiped away her tears; she wouldn't cry anymore.

Tang Shuwen smiled lightly. "That's better."

"Xiao Nian is fine, don't worry," Chen Xueru said, to which Tang Shuwen nodded. She brushed tenderly at the stubble on his cheeks, her appearance haggard from their shared suffering.

"You didn't shave Am I ugly" Tang Shuwen was somewhat dissatisfied with his current look; going from a refined gentleman to this rugged state did him no favors in terms of image.

"Very manly."

"Liar!"

"I'm telling the truth," Chen Xueru laughed, for looks weren't that important to men anyway.

"I don't believe you." Tang Shuwen pouted as his gaze locked onto her lips. "You need to prove it."

How

Tang Shuwen sighed; was this the kind of thing a twenty-something girl would say If even his obvious intent didn't register with her, Tang Shuwen said, "Xueru, give me a reward."Xiao Bai, meaning to ask Xiao Bai to send her back; they would spend time alone as a couple. They were almost getting married, so it didn't matter if his brothers and sisters didn't accept her as long...
